Franck Biancheri (1961-2012) was an early activist for what had been the great project of his life: a Europe in which citizens could be involved.
It was first of all in the creation of AEGEE (Etatss-Généraux des Étudiants d’Europe) in 1985, a student association that is still present in many European cities today, that this idea took shape. Two years later, his work at AEGEE made a decisive contribution to the implementation of the Erasmus student mobility programme.
In 1989, Franck Biancheri launched the Prometheus-Europe association, whose objective was to bring citizens closer to the European institutions. That same year, he was a candidate in the European elections under the banner of IDE (Initiative for a European Democracy), the first party to present lists in several European countries. The creation of the trans-European party Newropeans in 2005, of which Franck Biancheri will be the President until 2011, is in line with this same desire.
In 2005, he co-founded the European Laboratory for Political Anticipation (LEAP), which follows on from the Europe 2020 think-tank. He will be the Director of Studies and Strategy until his death in 2012.
Franck Biancheri’s archives provide a more detailed account of the various aspects of his commitment to the improvement of the European institutions. Indeed, the Franck Biancheri fund provides a comprehensive account of the functioning and activities of its various organisations, since AEGEE, which have been the relay for this commitment. This contains in particular the constitutive documents of these organisations, the reports and publications issued by them, the FDI campaign material or even very many documents relating to the organisation of symposia and seminars by Prometheus-Europe.
