On Thursday 14 March 2024, the Foundation organised a conference on the theme of “Some lessons from the Habsburg Empire for today’s Europe” with Caroline de Gruyter, a renowned Dutch journalist. She has worked as a correspondent in several diplomatic capitals (including Brussels, Geneva and Vienna). A member of the Carnegie Europe and European Council on Foreign Relations think tanks, she now lives and works in Brussels. Her book Monde d’hier, monde de demain: Un voyage à travers l’empire des Habsbourg et l’Union européenne (French translation from Dutch, Actes Sud, 2023), won her the Mieux comprendre l’Europe 2023 book prize.

The conference was followed by a discussion with Gilles Grin, Director of the Foundation, and questions from the audience.
