This first season focuses particularly on the life and work of Jean Monnet, the elements that led him to the famous Declaration of 9 May 1950, also known as the Schuman Declaration. In the heart of Lausanne (Switzerland), the Foundation created by Jean Monnet in 1978 represents a place of memory, reflection and debate on the major European issues.

But who is Jean Monnet? Come and discover the fascinating life of one of the founding fathers of European integration. We will talk about his atypical career, from his family business in Cognac to his status as Europe’s first honorary citizen.


2. The Schuman Declaration
Only five years after the end of the Second World War, mistrust still reigns between the peoples of Europe. How could France and Germany be reconciled in the long term? The Declaration of 9 May 1950 was to be the ambitious project that would change the destiny of Europe by laying the foundations of the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC), which would later become the European Union. A race against time was to take place against the backdrop of the Cold War and the great dangers to peace.


3. The Jean Monnet Foundation for Europe

The Jean Monnet Foundation for Europe is an international reference on European issues. The institution houses the archives of Jean Monnet as well as numerous personalities. It is an institution at the service of research and reflection. It deals with the major European debates through numerous conferences and publications.
