19th issue of the Debates and Documents Collection

In this month of September 2020, the Foundation is pleased to announce the publication of a new issue of its Debates and Documents Collection available in open access.

As tensions between the United States and China continue to grow, Philippe G. Nell shows in this new publication another way forward, especially for countries that do not play a geopolitical role at the global level. He assesses the first five years of the Swiss-Chinese free trade agreement, compares the main elements with China’s other free trade agreements and presents the development and risks of the trade conflict between the two largest economies in the world.

In his preface, Gary Clyde Hufbauer, a leading economist from the Peterson Institute for International Economics in Washington, highlights Switzerland’s very good strategy towards China, the excellent results achieved in the negotiation of the FTA by Switzerland despite the disparity in size between the two partners, and calls on other countries to follow the Swiss model.

The Foundation is honoured to enrich its collection with the work of Philippe G. Nell’s book, which is part of the collection, is being added to the Foundation’s collection as Switzerland and China celebrate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations this month.

Philippe G. Nell is Honorary Ambassador of the Swiss-Latin American Chamber of Commerce, member of the Board of several organisations and university lecturer.
