Since 1 March 2026, Roger de Weck is the president of the Foundation.
After eleven years as president, Pat Cox decided to step down for family reasons.
On 24 February 2026, the Executive Board, the institution’s decision-making body, appointed Mr Roger de Weck as the new president of the Foundation for a renewable three-year term, starting on 1 March 2026.
Born in Fribourg in 1953, Roger de Weck is a journalist, podcaster and bestselling author. A graduate of the University of St. Gallen (HSG) and holder of honorary doctorates from the University of Fribourg and the University of Lucerne, he is bilingual in French and German. He has worked for Swiss and foreign publications (24 heures, La Tribune de Genève, Die Zeit) before heading up the editorial teams of the Tages-Anzeiger and the German weekly Die Zeit. He chaired the Foundation Board of the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva from 2004 to 2010. He was Director General of the Swiss Broadcasting Corporation (SRG SSR) from 2011 to 2017. Currently a visiting professor at the College of Europe in Bruges, he is a member of the Council of the International Charlemagne Prize of Aachen.
Roger de Weck is the fifth president of the Foundation created by Jean Monnet in 1978, succeeding Henri Rieben (1978-2005), Bronislaw Geremek (2006-2008), José Maria Gil-Robles (2009-2014) and Pat Cox (2015-2026).
At its meeting on 24 February 2026, the Executive Council also appointed Fabien Fivaz and Laurent Wehrli as new members, effective 1 March 2026.
