On 13 June 2019, Pat Cox, President of the Foundation, former President of the European Parliament and former President of the European Movement International, delivered a conference in French on the theme “Brexit : et maintenant ? ». The event, which brought together around 170 people from the worlds of politics, economics, academia and the student body, was held on the campus of the University of Lausanne.
After a few introductory words, Pat Cox drew a portrait of Brexit, looking back at the historical aspects, the political climate and the importance of the Irish question in the negotiations for an exit treaty between London and Brussels.
Pat Cox’s lecture was followed by a speech by Emmanuel Bichet, Vice-Director of the Directorate for European Affairs of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs in Bern, who presented the Brexit issue from the perspective of the Swiss Confederation. The event was followed by a question-and-answer session with the public.
