On 3 October 2018, the Deputy Secretary-General of the European External Action Service (SEAS), Christian Leffler, held a conference on the theme of “The European Union’s foreign policy”. The event, organized by the Foundation on the campus of the University of Lausanne, brought together many personalities and members of the student body. Mr. Leffler’s lecture was followed, as usual, by a question and answer session.
Following the opening of the conference by Pat Cox, President of the Foundation and former President of the European Parliament, the Deputy Secretary General of SEAS spoke about the various challenges facing the European Union in the field of foreign policy. It was also an opportunity to review the creation of the SEAS which, existing only since 2009, was set up to coordinate the European Union’s external action.
