“AULA” conference, APG-ASPE in collaboration with the Foundation (2018)

The Swiss Foreign Policy Association (APG-ASPE) regularly organizes an “AULA” conference series in German-speaking Switzerland. For this first edition in French-speaking Switzerland, the Foundation was a partner of APG-ASPE. The conference was held at the Aula of the Palais de Rumine in downtown Lausanne.

Entitled “The European Union and Federalism – Lessons from the Swiss Experience”, this conference brought together three speakers: Gret Haller, President of APG-ASPE and former President of the Swiss Parliament, Dusan Sidjanski, Honorary President of the European Centre for Culture and Professor Emeritus of the University of Geneva, and François Cherix, Co-President of the New European Movement in Switzerland. Moderation was provided by Laurent Wehrli, National Councillor and Vice-President of APG-ASPE.

The conference opened with the presentation by Gret Haller of his latest publication, published in the Foundation’s Red Book series under the title “Europe – a space of freedom”. The speakers then discussed the issue of federalism and a Swiss model applicable or not to the European Union. Finally, the last part of the conference was an opportunity to open the debate with the public.
