On March 27, 2018, Her Excellency Mrs. Iliana Iotova, Vice-President of the Republic of Bulgaria, held a public conference on the site of the University of Lausanne, attended by about 100 people. This conference, organised jointly by the Foundation, the Bulgarian Embassy in Bern and the University of Fribourg, was part of an official working visit by the Vice-President, whose country holds the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union from January to June 2018.
After the opening of the event by Pat Cox, President of the Foundation and former President of the European Parliament, and Gilbert Casasus, Professor of European Studies at the University of Fribourg, Mrs Iliana Iotova delivered her vision of the European project and the priorities set by the Republic of Bulgaria for its Presidency. These priorities include the defence of cohesion policy, security and the future of the digital economy.
Based on her experience as a Member of the European Parliament between 2007 and 2017, the Vice-President stressed the strength of the European idea, which must nevertheless face the challenges it is currently facing.
The speech of H.E. Vice-President Iliana Iotova closed with a question-and-answer session with the participants.
